Riding in Mud

Techniques for slippery and soft surfaces

Why it matters

Mud and swampy sections are some of the trickiest terrain in MTB and cyclocross — unpredictable, slippery and energy-sapping. The keys are staying light on the bike, keeping steady forward motion, and avoiding sudden, aggressive inputs that break traction. Master mud and any loose or soft surface becomes manageable.
