Since children's races are short, starting at the front can be a significant advantage.
Be prepared for any weather – have an umbrella for sun or rain, a warm jacket, and other essentials handy so they are protected while waiting for the actual start.
Check your child's bike tire pressure one last time. Also ensure the bike is in an appropriate gear, ideally in the middle range, as it may be difficult to adjust once in the starting area. Clean the cleats with the brush from your survival bag and if the course is really muddy you might want spray again WD40 or other oily fluid to them.
