This usually includes an EEG and a few other basic tests to ensure the rider is fit for participation. It’s important to schedule these exams well in advance to avoid any delays in acquiring or renewing the license, especially if your child plans to participate in multiple events throughout the year. Effect on starting order It might seem early to think about starting positions during registration, but this is often the moment when your child’s placement on the starting line is determined. Early registration is critical, especially for standalone races that are not part of national or regional championships, as starting or calling order is typically decided based on the registration date. To ensure your child starts at the front, make the participation decision as early as possible. In age categories like U7, U9, and U11, starting position is crucial. These races are short, typically lasting 10–20 minutes, and starting from the back often puts riders at a significant disadvantage. With limited time to catch up, a strong starting position becomes essential for staying competitive. Additionally, first-corner crashes can occur, with the first 3–5 racers usually avoiding the chaos, while those further back may need to stop and wait for the path to clear—losing valuable time that’s hard to recover. For races that are part of a series, such as a local or national cup, the starting order is generally determined by the current ranking in the series or the national championship.
