Objectively assessing your child’s capabilities in cycling—or any sport—can be one of the hardest challenges for a parent. Our natural biases often make us overly optimistic about their abilities, leading to unrealistic expectations, or conversely, overly critical, potentially undermining their confidence. Evaluate the seven ingredients: Use the seven key ingredients for success outlined in this chapter as a framework to assess your child. Ask yourself which ones are naturally present, which can be developed with time and training, and which may be challenging to achieve. Understanding these dynamics can help set realistic goals and tailor your approach to their needs.
