Bike Weight & Why It Matters

Static vs rotating mass for light young riders

Why it matters

Weight matters in cycling — and far more for a 12–40 kg child than for an adult. A 4 kg difference in bike weight can equal 20% of a small rider’s body weight. Imagine an adult racing with a 15 kg backpack: that’s the penalty a heavy bike puts on a child.
